Advice for staying focused for startup CEOs

A recent Forbes piece by Paul Klipp of Quora examines the best way to drive up productivity for the startup CEO. A lot of it comes from the successful use of organizational techniques through online apps.

To the person who doesn't use a sophisticated system to plan his day, the massive color-coded maps that Klipp describes might seem intimidating and excessive. But according to him, they are essential for spacing out his time so that he accomplishes the most during the course of a day.

He also plans on different levels, not just working on day-to-day activities but also on a month-long scale using different tools. It even includes a system for sorting things that pop up spontaneously by differentiating them by when they need to be taken care of.

"I've found this system keeps my head clear, keeps me sane, and is easily manageable in just half an hour a week.," Klipp writes.

Even if your prospective CEO doesn't already have a system like this in place, identifying people who are at least aware of the tools available to them can be the task of an executive recruiter.  Such "hacks" that allow leaders to be more effective might be less difficult to set into motion than they seem, since they derive from commonly-used and available applications like Google.

On a related note, an article that appeared in Entrepreneur looked into the ways that Gmail features like reminders and task automation can be used for efficiency. This also includes integrating Gmail performance with other apps, like Boomerang.

A recruitment consultant sees and processes many different kinds of potential hires using organized time management systems of their own, and might be well matched to help your business maximize this value.
