The role holder had to determine what products and services should be developed to meet the consumer needs and how to communicate these products and services in a way that is clearly understood by the client. They must also communicate how this will impact their competitiveness, their product and service development as well as the company’s overall marketing strategy.

We needed to find someone that was well versed in the EMEA market with a good marketing discipline in the services (airlines, retail, leisure) industry. TELECOM – VP Global Financial Shared Services

In an effort to reduce costs, this major telecommunications company wanted to set up a global Financial Shared Services environment with three regional offices; one each in the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific. This would involve approximately 3000 staff reporting to the VP. The ideal candidate would have to have strong negotiation ability, in-depth knowledge of the financial industry as well as a persuasive personality in order to get buy in from heads of the various business units. He/she would also have to have previous hands-on experience in setting up a large global financial shared service environment.

This was a tremendous opportunity for the right person and a challenging search for us. We researched which companies had already set up such shared services environments. It was a relatively new concept, so not only were there few companies to choose from but to find companies who had done this on a global scale had made the list even shorter. Within six weeks we had a short list of five qualified candidates. Two candidates came from the pharmaceutical industry, one from a global software developer, one from a major office equipment manufacturer and one from a management consultancy.

The client chose one of the candidates with the pharmaceutical industry background and proceeded forward with establishing a global financial shared services environment worldwide.
