Alan Mulally out of Microsoft CEO race

For those eagerly following the news of the battle for the top position at Microsoft, a new wrinkle developed recently, with previous candidate Alan Mulally, the current CEO of Ford, stepping out of the race after speculation that he might be chosen.

Mulally seems to have decided himself to set the record straight, telling the Associated Press that he is simply dedicated to working at his current company and is not interested in pursuing any outside opportunities. This seems specifically designed to assuage the other members of the company by providing reassurance of his commitment.

"I would like to end the Microsoft speculation because I have no other plans to do anything other than serve Ford," he said in the AP interview. Not only is Mulally's CEO tenure seeing the launch of a special new brand of Mustang next year, it builds on the 8-year history that he has with his company and the way he is sticking to the projects he already has in effect.

The article notes that the company has earned nearly $33 billion since he took office, and the company's stock has raised in value with this announcement. This is why the process of identifying someone who might fare well in your company's vacant position might need to address the ways that professionals react in the relationship they've built up with their own companies.

Your business might feel somewhat out of sorts when a potential candidate like this decides to retire from the running, but it can save you the time of needless considerations, as the search continues. YES Partners, a recruitment consultancy, can help your business determine the tenacity that different considered individuals might display once they are on the job.
