Know the competition for strong executive recruitment

It's common for a business searching for a new worker to lose its prospect to another competitor who is faster on the draw. According to information cited by John Zappe in a piece for ERE.net, recruiters see more than 30 percent of their candidates go to someone else. Because of this, companies undergoing executive recruitment need to be acutely aware of what is being offered by a company's competition.

It is bad recruiting practice to assume that a potential hire is desperate and won't be looking at other options. Though you shouldn't change the face of your business to appeal to one person, it's important to recognize what is appealing about others in the same industry.

Here are some questions to ask yourself about your industry rivals:

  • How rigorous are their search processes? Does the job posting for an open position have many criteria, or just a few? If you seem far less strict than similar businesses also looking for leadership, you could accidentally send the impression that you aren't paying enough attention to a job's parameters.
  • Is your employee turnover rate normal? It's possible that the field you specialize in is simply fated to see a lot of coming and going. However, this could be a red flag to the candidate if there's more of this than usual at your business.
  • What is your culture like? Are you typical for a business in the field or trying something radically different? An incoming CEO could change the general mood in the workplace, but it helps to know where you are starting from.

A little healthy comparison with others could make your company more attractive to newcomers and better-suited to handling them in the interview process.
