Marissa Mayer sends Yahoo COO packing

We've seen other members of Marissa Mayer's Yahoo jump ship before, but recently we were given an example of the company's famous chief executive herself giving an employee the boot. And that person in question is not only a C-level staff member, but the Chief Operating Officer Henrique De Castro, and according to Bloomberg it seems to have been chiefly Mayer's decision.

That source describes De Castro's path at Yahoo, which only lasted a little more than a year after the man came to Yahoo from Google. Mayer might have appointed De Castro herself, but it appears that the relationship soured, at least according to the text of the memo as it was posted on Recode.

"During my own reflection, I made the difficult decision that our COO, Henrique de Castro, should leave the company," Mayer wrote. "I appreciate Henrique's contributions and wish him the best in his future endeavors."

As can be the case when someone in a significant position departs, there's a void left to fill and only so many people to do it. The rest of the memo describes Mayer's plans to "restructure," with some other existing employees stepping into new roles and others "report[ing] directly to me."

Management recruitment can, as we see here, involve not just one search, but a complete revision of a company's current structure. For this to be successful, a business needs to make an honest investment into what they're doing, and since CEOs can choose to dismiss people suddenly, a firm like YES Partners may need to be brought in to help build a new executive team.

Finding people is easy, but finding the RIGHT people is not. YES Partners helps companies FIND the right people – for all company functions, across many industries and globally.
