Medical emergency will keep Nintendo CEO from annual meeting

During any CEO tenure, medical emergencies can throw a wrench into the best-laid plans. An executive recruiter might not be able to predict the future, but they can help you understand how a particular candidate handles setbacks.

The CEO and president of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, is currently recuperating from surgery for a tumor found during a "routine examination." It seems he is making the commitment to stay in his position. In a release from the company, Iwata expressed that he is taking his respite to be in the best possible shape to help the company going forward.

He will be missing the company's shareholder meeting. While this could be perceived as a sign of weakness or lack of ability to continue as CEO, what may be more important is the resolve he has shown through the ordeal.

"As the president of the company, I regret that I cannot attend the meeting," Iwata's statement said. "However, I understand that I have to prioritize my medical treatment and to recover as soon as possible so that I will again be able to do my best to help the company to grow."

The timing for this announcement is interesting: It comes on the heels of the company garnering a large amount of positive press after its appearance at videogame trade show E3.

Whatever the challenges your business or executives may face, a recruitment consultant can help your business find candidates who handle difficult situations with resolve.
