Millennial executives have the drive to succeed

Aspiring executives of the Millennial generation can lead a company to success with the right support and placement. In a recent piece for ERE.net, researcher Kevin Troy examines some of the stereotypes assigned to this demographic and how they distract from the goals that younger professionals are pursuing.

Not all of the stereotypes about Millennial executives are negative and some point to real business values. Troy notes that many believe workers of this age to be overly driven, and that 70 percent of working Millennials surveyed across the world said they plan to ascend to a managerial position. A different survey cited by Troy found that more than 30 percent of Millennials on average want leaders who "empower their employees." 

With this information in mind, companies should reassess the way they think of younger executive candidates. While people in this age group shouldn't be seen in one particular way, the desires and career path expectations they bring with them should be anticipated by the recruitment staff.

"Too often, we make assumptions about what candidates want in the workplace without digging in to truly understand what they want," he said. "Given the differences that exist from one millennial to the next, employers and recruiters need to approach their target talent groups with a diversified approach."

Bank of America's recent Fall 2014 Small Business Owner Report recently showed that 13 percent of business owners of the Millennial generation are expressing higher expectations of reaching their year-end revenue goal than the older Generation X. Millennial professionals are also more hopeful when it comes to increasing revenue within the year and growing business within five years.
