Is it time for a change in your work culture? A new CEO could help you find out

By working with a recruitment consultant, your business can identify and contextualize the traits that you find most desirable in an executive, and ensure that whomever you hire will fit in with your culture. A good executive can also break down unproductive aspects of the culture and reorient your business toward success.

One example is the "jock" culture. As described by Jim Dougherty in the Harvard Business Review, it is typified in the workplace by aggression and a tightly-knit social atmosphere that sees a lot of people working the same way.

While there could conceivably be productivity in an office setting like this, Dougherty related some of the less positive aspects that might develop when a sports-driven, male dominated working environment is the norm. One of the biggest issues is that it dissuades unconventional approaches to problems.

"Different types of people are not welcome. If you're really smart, but a bit different, it doesn't matter," Dougherty wrote in reference to this kind of company culture. "You're not accepted, nor do [you] want to join in the first place. This puts the organization on a death path."

Experienced c-level staff can recognize potentially destructive aspects of an organization's culture, but a truly great CEO will work to diversify the company and overhaul the environment.

Something insidious in your business could be causing you difficulties that you aren't even fully aware of. But there are clear options out there for those who want to take action to correct inefficiencies in their office. The best way to incite organizational change is from the top down, and an executive recruiter can help your business find the talented leader it needs to usher in a new, successful era.
