What you need to know about your shortlisted candidates

It's no secret that the final interview stages are as much about selling your organization as they are about evaluating the candidate. To put together a successful pitch, companies must make a concerted effort to find out what drives their candidates' decision-making so that they can position themselves as the ideal choice.

In an article published in ERE Media, Dr. John Sullivan goes into this topic in depth, outlining what he sees as the most important factors companies must understand about their candidates to successfully bring them on board. Here are three key pieces of information he identifies:

  • Job acceptance criteria: Sullivan says hiring managers must not fail to find out what it will take for their best candidates to say yes to an offer. This is especially crucial, he explains, because these people will undoubtedly have multiple offers on the table: the more boxes your company can check, the better chance it has at securing a game-changing relationship.
  • Ideal methods of communication: "Effective two-way communications between the candidate and the recruiter is critical throughout the recruiting process," says Sullivan. To ensure this high-touch strategy is successful, he continues, it's critical recruiters reach out to potential new hires on their preferred channel of communication, rather than the recruiter's.
  • What do they need to know?: At this stage, interviews are most effective if they allow talent equal opportunity to ask questions of the hiring team as the other way around. Sullivan says interview teams should be sure to ask top candidates what they expect, who they would like to speak with and the specific information they need before they would feel comfortable accepting an offer.
