Why your company might not be attracting the right candidates

At YES Partners, we're well aware of how critical it is to find the right executive candidate to meet a particular company's needs. Too often, companies have trouble finding highly qualified candidates due to a few common errors on their part. To attract the right people to your job opening, it's important to make sure you're not making any of these mistakes.

Some qualified candidates may be turned off if the position you describe is too vague or requires too many different, unrelated skills. Make sure you narrow down the skill set you're looking for as much as possible before beginning the search. This will also keep otherwise excellent candidates from thinking they can't apply because they aren't familiar with your company's particular software, for example.

Others might be attracted by the job description but turned off by an overly complicated application process. If you want to recruit the best talent, you have to keep in mind that these people are likely already employed, leaving them with little time for outdated, overly bureaucratic job applications.

Finally, some candidates make it all the way to the interview process before getting cold feet. One common issue is that the interviewer makes it seem like he or she is trying to stump the candidate with trick questions rather than asking the interviewee straightforwardly about his or her skills and what he or she can bring to the job. If your interview process consists mainly of jumping through intellectual hoops, you won't necessarily end up with the candidate who will do the best job in the end.

Working with an executive search firm can help solve many of these problems by taking the initial burden of finding and vetting candidates off your company's shoulders.

Finding people is easy, but finding the RIGHT people is not. YES Partners helps companies FIND the right people – for all company functions, across many industries and globally.
