CEOs can spearhead tech initiatives within your company

CEO experience with technology is still a valuable trait, and CIO recently reported on the particular importance of big data for higher levels of management. According to an Accenture report cited by the article, a majority of c-level professionals, out of a list of thousands polled, are pursuing big data in some form. The same source notes that more than 90 percent of these executives "were satisfied" with the way their big data projects turned out.

Because of the new and extensive amount of "smart" technology out there, enterprises have the means to track information like never before. This means that all companies should consider the practical applications of big data.

The source quotes Accenture's managing director Vince Dell'Anno, who mentioned some of the ways that specific, well-thought-out solutions help reveal the uses of big data.

"We've seen organizations overcome big data implementation challenges by remaining flexible and recognizing that no single solution fits every situation," he said. "If a particular approach doesn't work, organizations try another one, learning as they grow. They also start small and stay realistic in their expectations."

However, another survey, this one by Pricewaterhouse Coopers, asserts that a combined total of more than 70 percent of polled CEOs tend to trust their personal experience and those of others before big data. In addition, more than 40 percent of U.K. executives are skeptical about using data for major decisions.

Rather than miss out on the benefits of data altogether, businesses should look to increase the members of their c-level staff who already have some experience with it. If these individuals already know the best means of collecting and using analytics information, the company is more likely to reap the benefits.
