Great CEO leadership sets a clear example for employee growth

Writing for Chief Executive, Joel Trammel recently discussed some of the major roadblocks to successful executive leadership. One of these, according to him, is an inability for executives to integrate employees into their company's overall business model. Trammel writes that many companies don't have executives who help individual workers understand what they have to contribute to success.

While different employees may have varying degrees of responsibility, all employees affect the outcome of an organization as a whole. Composing a long-term strategy for growth is only part of the process for CEOs: Through direct outreach and targeted improvements, a CEO tenure can help specific employees be more productive.

Strong leaders should take the time to guaruntee all workers understand their roles, Trammel argues, or else even a carefully crafted plan won't succeed.

"The speed and complexity of business today requires that CEOs have some sort of system to regularly check employee progress on goals and be alerted to issues that may impact performance," he says. "Both novice and experienced CEOs should understand their responsibilities and prioritize their time accordingly."

Whether or not they do this themselves, the capable CEO should at least make sure everyone knows how to respond to important company policies. Focusing on individual progress can help transform employee behavior and set a strong example for growth, as a recent piece for Entrepreneur suggests.

Employees are more likely to become active if someone is regularly meeting with them, going over their performance and communicating with them clearly. This is also the ideal way to address problematic attitudes the first time, rather than calling it out in front of the entire office.
